Petersburg National Battlefield

Petersburg National Battlefield preserves sites associated with the Siege of Petersburg. The siege lasted 292 days and involved eight offensives and more than 70,000 casualties. U.S. forces cut off supplies to Petersburg and the Confederate capital, Richmond. The campaign included the participation of U.S. Colored Troops and contributed to the decline of Gen. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia.
