About the Park
Wupatki National Monument is located near Flagstaff in northern Arizona, between the Painted Desert and ponderosa highlands. During the early 1100s, cooler and wetter conditions supported a thriving community and a center of trade and culture. The sites represent the footprints of ancestors for Indigenous peoples. The monument is operated by the National Park Service.
