Bushy Park is one of south Dublin’s most varied urban parks. Located in Terenure beside the River Dodder, it combines mature trees, riverside walks, sports facilities and family-friendly spaces in a setting that feels much larger than a typical neighbourhood park.
Walking beside the Dodder is one of the easiest ways to enjoy the park. The river corridor adds wildlife interest and creates a quieter atmosphere than the surrounding streets.
Bushy Park also has an unusually broad range of facilities, including GAA and soccer pitches, tennis, padel and boules courts, a playground and a skatepark. The duck pond is another popular stop for families.
The site has a long estate history. The name Bushy Park dates back to the eighteenth century, and the estate later passed through several owners before Dublin Corporation acquired it in the twentieth century.
Spring and summer are ideal for longer walks and sports, while autumn is attractive for mature-tree colour. Seasonal gate times apply, so check current opening information before an evening visit.
