History

The square was developed around 1800 as part of the Gardiner family’s expansion of Dublin’s Northside. It is notable for its strong geometric layout and is regarded as Dublin’s only perfectly symmetrical Georgian square.

The park became public property in the twentieth century and still contains historic and artistic details, including a granite sundial.
