Theodore Roosevelt Island

Theodore Roosevelt Island is a memorial to America’s 26th president. In the 1930s, landscape architects transformed Mason’s Island from neglected, overgrown farmland into a designed “real forest.” The landscape was created to mimic the natural forest that once covered the island. Miles of trails pass through wooded uplands and swampy bottomlands, honoring Theodore Roosevelt’s legacy as an outdoorsman and conservationist.
