Yorktown Battlefield Part of Colonial National Historical Park

Yorktown Battlefield is the site of the last major battle of the Revolutionary War. In the fall of 1781, General George Washington and allied American and French forces besieged General Charles Lord Cornwallis’s British army. Cornwallis surrendered on October 19, effectively ending the war and ensuring American independence.
