Tonto National Monument

Tonto National Monument contains two cliff dwellings in the northern range of the Sonoran Desert. The dwellings were occupied from 1300 to 1450 CE by local and immigrant groups living in the Tonto Basin. Together, these groups formed a culture that archaeologists refer to as Salado. Descendants of the cliff dwellers continue to live in Arizona.
