About the Park

Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site is located in Tuskegee, Alabama. Moton Field was where the Army Air Corps conducted a military test to determine whether African Americans could be trained to fly combat aircraft. The pilots began flight training in the Army’s PT-17 Stearman bi-plane. They later became known as the “Red Tails,” after initially wearing striped tails.
