About the Park
Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site traces the development of Tuskegee Institute after Booker T. Washington arrived in Alabama in 1881. Washington recruited educators including George Washington Carver, who arrived in 1896. Carver’s agricultural innovations, particularly involving peanuts, expanded Tuskegee’s national reputation. The site is operated by the National Park Service.
